Ryan Durr and his wife were lost. For three years, they had battled their son’s rare epilepsy diagnosis and after failing half a dozen pharmaceuticals, they feared their options were exhausted. Then a glimmer of hope. Their son, Owen, became eligible for the Texas Compassionate Use Act—a program that allows the use of high CBD, low THC cannabis oil for intractable epilepsy.

Inspired by their journey, Ryan and director Justin Wilson follow six Texas families using medical-grade CBD to treat epilepsy, while giving an unflinching look into their lives and how far they’re willing to go to find a little hope.

From a 17-year old testifying before a House committee to a family falling behind on their mortgage in order to afford their oil, CHASING HOPE explores the issues and restrictions that surround this controversial medication in a conservative-led state, and how it’s impacting the lives of many Texas families.
